California Health Insurance for Children
Under the Obama Healthcare Reform, as of September 23, 2010, children under the age of 19 get guaranteed acceptance for health insurance regardless of their previous or current health history.

Depending on which carriers offer children only policies, parents will be able to buy California health insurance for children who have pre-existing medical conditions at thcsonline.com. Please note that most of the insurance companies will not be carrying children only policies. Please contact us for an up-to-date list of providers.

Although most of the insurance providers will not be providing California health insurance for children, Blue Shield of California will continue to do so. It’s not a guaranteed acceptance and your child is subject to a medical review, but you will still be able to purchase an individual health insurance policy for them if they are less than 19 years of age.

Another option for providing coverage to your children will be to set up a family plan. On January 11, 2010 almost all major health insurance providers, including Blue Cross of California, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Aetna will be removing all pre-existing exclusions for enrollees under the age of 19 if they are on your family plan. This means you will be able to provide California health insurance to your children regardless of any medical conditions.

For group plans and policies this change becomes effective upon renewals on or after September 23, 2010. This change is effective as of January 11, 2011 for individual and family plans and policies that are not grandfathered.
